The good news is you can now get a clearer picture of WA’s short-term rental accommodation (STRA) sector with a new interactive reporting tool providing detailed information about these properties.
The report, located on the WA Government’s STRA Register webpage, allows you to explore registration trends, compare activity between different locations and look at the different types of accommodation being offered as short-term rentals.
You can filter the information by region and local government area, accommodation type, hosted or un-hosted properties, and whether the property is registered by the owner or a tenant.
This means you can take a closer look at what is happening in different parts of WA and get a better understanding of how registered STRA properties are being operated.
This is the first detailed public reporting tool of its kind for WA and is designed to improve transparency by making STRA registration data easier for consumers, local governments, industry and the broader community to access and understand.
The report is updated monthly so the information remains current and useful for anyone wanting to keep track of STRA activity across Western Australia. It also complements the existing STRA heat map, which continues to provide a visual representation of where registered STRA properties are concentrated throughout the state.
Since January 2025, short-term rentals must be registered with the Consumer Protection operated STRA Register and display the registration number in all advertisements. The registration number allows prospective guests and the wider community to verify that a property is lawfully registered. This month the first fine was issued under these laws to a STRA provider who didn’t follow the rules.
