CPD changes in 2026

In November 2023, the WA Government announced that changes to the mandatory Continuing Professional Development program (CPD) for the WA real estate and settlement industries would commence in January 2026.

This followed a comprehensive industry consultation process, which revealed widespread support for continuing with mandatory education for the property industries but with some changes to ensure that the requirements are manageable for industry and that the program is sustainable in the future.

From January 2026:

  • Consumer Protection will continue to support the CPD program but will no longer directly administer delivery of the program. Course providers will determine course content, in line with regulations and guidelines, and property industry participants will be required to self-fund CPD activities as is the case in other industries.
  • The number of points required will be reduced from the current 10 points for real estate industry participants and 6 points for settlement agents to 5 points for all property industry participants.
  • From 2026, the CPD year will move from 1 January – 31 December to 1 April – 31 March each year. Any course completed between 1 January 2026 and 31 March 2026 can be counted towards the requirements for the CPD year 1 April 2026 – 31 March 2027.
  • All participants will be required to keep records of the CPD units that they complete, and to provide information about completed activities to Consumer Protection on request.
