CPD reminder for 2016 - Real estate bulletin 110 (April 2016)

Compulsory Professional Development (CPD) is a legal requirement for all licensed real estate agents and business brokers as well as all registered real estate sales representatives, including those restricted to property management. Failure to complete your CPD requirements could put your licence or registration at risk of not being renewed.

Mandatory CPD training during 2016 aims to update your knowledge and skills on changes to legislation, including a review of the Code of Conduct for Real Estate and Business Agents 2011 (the Code) and the proposed amendments.

For property managers, mandatory CPD will also cover recent amendments to the Residential Tenancies Regulations 1989.

Training resources have also been specifically designed for those licensees and registrants working predominately in commercial and/or retail real estate.

Four registered training providers are delivering the mandatory CPD training during 2016 and should be contacted directly for bookings. These sessions are available in venues across the Perth metropolitan area and in selected regional locations. Under the terms of their contracts, the training providers are not able to deliver mandatory CPD outside of Western Australia. Distance Learning Packages are also available for those in remote locations who are unable to attend face-to-face CPD activities.

If your triennial certificate or certificate of registration is not valid at the time of completing a mandatory CPD training session, you cannot be accredited the mandatory CPD points. If your certificate will expire during this CPD year, you should ensure you submit an application for renewal at least one month before the expiry date to allow enough time for processing and any follow-up requirements relating to your application.

Under the Code, agents are responsible for ensuring all employees comply with the legislation, rules and regulations governing the industry. This includes the requirement for licensed or registered employees to meet their CPD obligations. Consumer Protection encourages agents to regularly check with employees that their CPD compliance is up-to-date.
