February 2025

Commissioner Determination decision now available

It has been six months since the Commissioner Determinations process started, and you can now access past Commissioner's Decisions about keeping pets and making minor modifications in rentals on our website.

Publishing these decisions provides clarity to tenants, property managers and landlords about how the Commissioner arrives at their decisions.

All identifiable information has been removed from the published decisions, and new decisions will be added periodically.

Commissioner Guidelines for keeping pets in a rental home

A comprehensive set of guidelines has now been added to the Consumer Protection website.

These guidelines will assist tenants, landlords and property managers to understand:

  • What steps each party is responsible for taking in the process.
  • How the Commissioner decides if a pet is permitted in the premises.
  • What factors the Commissioner considers when deciding whether a landlord’s condition is reasonable.

Commissioner Determination Customer Satisfaction Survey

If you have been involved in the Commissioner Determinations process, we will invite you by email to complete a customer satisfaction survey to provide your thoughts and feedback on the process, the decision issued, and your experience.

Your participation and feedback in the survey will assist Consumer Protection to improve the service we provide.
