Registration and licence qualification changes

Effective 31 October 2020, new qualification requirements apply for anyone seeking a sales representative registration or real estate and business agent licence.

Impact of new reforms

The new requirements involve completing a prescribed number of units under either the CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice (Cert IV) for registrations or the CPP51119 Diploma of Property (Agency Management) for licences.

Registered training organisations have to stop teaching the previous qualifications by 30 September 2021. You can apply for a registration using the previous qualifications until this date. When it comes to an agent’s licence, both the previous and new diploma qualifications will be accepted after 30 September 2021.

Key changes

There are now three types of sales representative registrations. This includes a new category which restricts holders to conduct sales transactions only.

The other major change is the need to complete additional units when you want to obtain an agent’s licence. This depends on the type of registration and qualifications you hold. Our licensing qualification flowcharts provide more information.

Effect on existing registrations and licences

There is no need to retrain under the new qualification requirements to keep your registration or licence.

If you do not maintain your registration or licence and need to apply for another one, you may have to complete the new qualification requirements.

More information

The new qualification requirements are set out under regulation 6 and regulation 6A of the Real Estate and Business Agents (General) Regulations 1979 (WA).

More information on how this may apply to you is available on our Pathways to real estate and business agent licensing and registration 2020 webpage.
